So my Trooper has been making an awful screeching noise for about a week now. I’ve looked around a bit, but it’s been hella cold and I don’t have a garage AND it’s my “beater” so I’m not hyper crazy about it and wow this is a run-on sentence...

Anyways, tonight I was hanging with KenHasTerribleLuckWithBlandCars, MyLandRoverIsTooReliable and others at a meet and we figured out what was the issue with the Trooper. The pcv hose was pinching/collapsing and restricting flow and causing it to screech. I cut the hose a bit short and it’s shitty hose from advance that’s not as sturdy as the OE hose so it pinched and screeches. Here’s what I did when I figured it out...

It’s a 1993 Isuzu Trooper RS. There were only around 500ish second gen RS models ever imported in North America. i know of 7 or 8 left.

Ah yes, the Trooper. What a horribly crappy car that was. I don’t miss at my family’s past 2 ones.

The manual was shit, the 4WD was barely competent and the interior smell was nauseating

Thanks for shitting on my car. Mine’s an auto, trust me, the auto is worse... I’ve had good luck with the 4wd in snow, it’s got a lsd in the rear and with kinda okay tires without much tread it gave no fucks about the presence of snow. The interior does kinda smell though. Anyways, it’s a cheap as fuck truck that is serving me well.

The last time I had an awful screetching noise coming from under the hood of my car it turned out to be a possum with its tail stuck in the belts.

I’m recounting my own experience with a 1st and 2nd gen Trooper. I grew up where there was no snow at all and the need for a good 4wd was key in offroad situations (mountains, trails, etc).

Between failed transfer cases and other unreliability on the Troopers, we found that our Monteros and Land Cruisers and 4runners we’ve had were much tougher.

I had a 92 for a few years in college, the 4wd was more than competent. I didn't think the manual was bad either. Your family might have just had bad luck with them.

I pulled a manual from an old Trooper to install into my sister’s-soon-to-be-my ‘01 Rodeo. The MUA-5 isn’t a sporty transmission by any means but when you approach it as what it is you’ll see it’s excellent... A medium duty truck transmission.

Don’t let the haters hate. Troopers are fun.

Of course Land Cruisers and 4runners were better. It's a piece of shit, but I could buy it 5 times over for what a decent example of either runs. Plus, it's a winter beater. It's supposed to be crappy.
